Lost Your Keys, Or Just Locked Them Inside? How An Auto Locksmith's Services Can Help

Auto locksmiths are quite good at what they do. They can provide you with one of three services to help you get back into your vehicle and get on the road again. Those services are as follows.

Lockout Service

It happens to everyone at least once. You leave the keys in the vehicle and lock the doors by accident as you exit the car. The trouble is, you do not have a spare key fob or key to get back into the car. The locksmith has tools at his or her disposal that will wedge your door open just enough to slip a wire inside and hit the unlock button. Then the door will unlock and open, and you can retrieve the keys you left inside. The locksmith may offer to make you a spare key on the spot, in case you want a spare key and your door actually takes keys. (Some cars are completely key-free now, in which case, you will need a different sort of service from the locksmith.)

Spare Key Service

Some locksmiths are able to make spare keys in the backs of their trucks. This is especially helpful if you want a spare key right away while you have the locksmith standing there. It saves you some money because you do not have to pay the locksmith for a second trip out to your home. The locksmith can copy the key you have, test it, and then give it to you.

If your door does not use keys but only key fobs with wireless transmitter signals, the locksmith may or may not have any for your particular car. If he or she does not carry or sell key fobs, you will have to go to a dealership for that. Likewise, if your key fob is malfunctioning and you cannot get into your vehicle, the locksmith can open the door the usual way, but without a working key fob or spare, you will be locked out again the minute you get out of the vehicle.

Lock-Changing Service

If your car has visible exterior locks, the locksmith can swap these locks out for new locks. If he or she does that, you will receive at least one key that fits those locks. Then you do not have to worry about keys not working. Your new keys will work just fine in the new locks that the locksmith installed for you.
